Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memories are of discovering a piano hidden in the attic of her home, and discovering the music it produced. Parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to take up music not as professional or as a pastime, but as a way to develop. To achieve this, she began writing songs that were her own creations. Alongside Bjork as well, she mentions Leonard Cohen as an influence. The singer decided to perform their songs in public after her mom suggested it could aid people in not gain fame through the work she does, but to help those around them see the significance of what they do and how they impact the world. As a young girl she started playing the piano. At age nine, she was writing music. Family members didn't even know that she had begun until fourteen. The dream was never to turn into Aurora. She claims she loves creating songs. Music to her is the most effective way to experience whatever.
